The Plett Fringe Festival brings comedian Daniel Richards to town for serious light-hearted entertainment. 2018 also brings a new member to the Plett ARTS line up – AFRIDOCS in Plett, featuring documentaries, special guests, and a nightly afterparty with DJ Jazztrain and Plett’s unrivalled hospitality. Chill at Plett SunSets on a Friday with musicians like Koos Kombuis and other yet to be revealed legends. Another new entry with live music takes centre stage on Central Beach. The annual Slow Fun Run and Beach Festival will once again be hosted by the Sedgefield branch of Knysna Tourism, Sotheby’s Sedgefield and Misfits Studio. Sedgefield’s fifth Beach Festival will take place on Myoli Beach on 22 December.
This year we welcome Twizza Soft Drink as sponsors to add some colour and fun to the event.
Misfit Studio will be co-ordinating the 5km Slow Fun Run along two of Sedgefield’s beaches, Myoli and Swartvlei. The run will be started by WWE professional wrestler Justin Gabriel.
Entry fees are R10 for children and R20 for adults. All proceeds for all the activities of the festival will go to The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) of South Africa.
The Fun Run will be followed by the Sotheby’s Amateur Fun Sand-Sculpting Competition. The theme this year is Santa Workshop. Entries are R100 for up to four people in a team, and will be available at Sedgefield Tourism Office, Cycleworx and Sotheby’s Sedgefield.
This fun competition is a great way for families to get creative and connect,” says Belinda Hobson, Sedgefield Tourism Manager.
The Sotheby’s Beach Treasure Hunt promises to delight the little ones as usual. “The treasure hunt is always great fun,” says Belinda. The entry fee is R10 per child.
The day will end with the popular Egg Toss at an entry fee of R10.
As in previous years, this year’s festival offers fabulous prizes from many generous sponsors. If you would like to sponsor or contribute to this Charity Event please email Belinda@visitknysna.co.za.
For further information contact Sedgefield Tourism on 044 343 2007.

Don’t miss the chance to eat local and drink with artisan cheeses, charcuterie and breads, sushi, savouries and of course – beautiful, cultivated coastal oysters. Enjoy the sun on your face, your toes in the sand and some seriously great food mixed with seriously fun music – ingredients that make for a fabulous Plett weekend! Experience the blue skies, chin-chin and make seaside memories.
Here are seven tastes to experience at this year’s Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival, brought to you by Plett Tourism and the Bitou Municipality:
The ISLAND DINER will bring through their beautiful sushi and delectable tapas for a breather between bubblies.
PANA DI SOFIA will be selling their hand-crafted artisan breads.
This year’s gateway to beautiful, succulent cultivate oysters will be with THE FAT FISH, for anyone and everyone wanting a taste of the ocean with their bubbles.
THE BILTONG MAN makes a special appearance this year, offering ‘secret spiced’ biltong and drywors to many waiting fans.
If hand-crafted cheeses and locally procured charcuterie is your scene, the HEATH CAFÉ has your platter waiting!
THE PEPPERMILL is a new addition and will be adding some fun fare with a succulent pork belly dish and their famous chicken burgers.
And to top it off – Paul West from ICE PALAZZO will jazz up the mood with his Champagne sorbet and a Cabernet and chocolate ice cream.

This week has been busy for the staff of Knysna Tourism. While our front office staff are assisting the public with queries about accommodation for the Knysna Oyster Festival and in the longer term, our marketing team has been focussing on getting the message out to world that Knysna is open for business. In this newsletter, read the story behind our logo, #VisitKnysna #KnysnaRises, which was designed for us pro bono by local advertising creative Dominic Morel.
We have had fantastic support from Minister of Tourism Tokozile Xasa, Minister Alan Winde from the Ministry of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism of the Western Cape, and Sisa Ntshona CEO of South African Tourism, who will all help us to ensure that our message reaches international travel agents, tour operators and media. We are also taking advantage of the presence of local media in our town to get the message out to South Africans.
The Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival is on track and one of the highlights will be The Pick n Pay Seafood Wednesday, which brings together the best Knysna has to offer in one venue. From fresh seafood to wine and beer tastings, fish braais and music, there will be something for the whole family.
There was much excitement earlier in the week when 50 Qhubeka bicycles as well as handmade blankets, scarves and beanies arrived in Knysna to assist with relief efforts following the devastating fires. Read about this wonderful initiative for our local community.
Please ensure that you complete The Business Disaster Register for Knysna residents that is being sent out by Knysna Municipality so that they can assess the amount of damage done by the fires, including job losses and total loss to the economy.
